When Lord Vishnu Took The Mohini Avatar
Among the many avatars of Lord Vishnu, the Mohini avatar is unique, as he assumed the form of a beautiful woman, causing even demons and asuras to be confused. The reason behind the Mohini avatar was the Samudra Manthan, which took place between the gods and demons for the nectar of immortality. When the demons tried to seize the pot of nectar, Lord Vishnu took the form of Mohini to safely deliver the nectar to the gods. With his cleverness, he distributed the nectar among the gods, granting them power and immortality. This avatar of the Lord not only allowed the gods to drink the nectar but also conveyed other important messages, highlighting its significance.
- By taking the Mohini avatar, Lord Vishnu conveyed the message that whenever there is a crisis in the world of righteousness, he will appear in some form to protect it.
- Lord Vishnu took every avatar for the welfare, protection, and establishment of dharma. The Mohini avatar also demonstrates that, no matter the situation, it is essential to maintain justice and balance.
- The Mohini avatar also highlights Lord Vishnu’s wisdom, showing that if the right decision is made with intelligence and cleverness at the right time, even the greatest crises can be avoided, and success can be achieved.
The Two Mysteries Of The Mohini Avatar
It is commonly believed that during the Samudra Manthan, when the pot of nectar emerged, a dispute broke out between the gods and demons over who would claim it. At that time, Lord Vishnu took the form of Mohini. Upon seeing his divine form, the demons were mesmerised, and Vishnu cleverly took the nectar from them and distributed it among the gods.
However, another story associated with Lord Vishnu's Mohini avatar is that he assumed this form to protect the gods from Bhaskmasur. According to religious beliefs, Bhaskmasur was granted a boon that anyone he touched on the head would turn to ashes. Lord Vishnu, in his Mohini form, asked Bhaskmasur to dance. Enchanted by Mohini's beauty, he agreed to dance. While dancing, Vishnu placed Bhaskmasur’s hand on his own head, causing Bhaskmasur to turn to ashes. Thus, the end of Bhaskmasur came through Lord Vishnu's Mohini avatar.
