VIDEO: Roof Of Gwalior's Historic Maharaj Bada Post Office Collapses; One Laborer Injured

Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): A portion of the roof at the Maharaj Bada Post Office in Gwalior collapsed, leaving 2 labourers working at the site injured. The incident occurred on Saturday, a video of which surfaced on social media on Sunday.

The injured man, identified as Mukesh, was immediately rushed to the Jayarogya Hospital (JAH) for treatment.

The incident occurred during renovation work being carried out under the Smart City Project.

According to information, the roof was old and made of decayed wooden beams, which had become weak over time. Despite warnings and the poor condition of the structure, the area was not fully vacated.

Post office building a heritage

Sources say a separate tender of ₹1.25 crore was sanctioned specifically for the roof renovation, as the building is considered part of the city’s heritage.

Unfortunately, while Mukesh was working, the wooden support weakened and the entire roof collapsed. Machinery inside the post office was also damaged.

Fire and emergency services quickly arrived at the scene and helped manage the situation.

Fortunately, no other staff members were present in the building at the time.

Officials from the Smart City Project said they had repeatedly asked the post office authorities to vacate the premises for safety reasons. However, the building was never fully cleared, with only a few rooms being emptied at a time.

An investigation is expected to follow regarding the delay in vacating the building and the overall safety measures during the renovation process.
