Every year, the National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts several competitive examinations such as JEE, CUET, and others so that aspirants can take admission into various undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs across top institutions in India. These exams serve as a gateway for students to pursue their desired courses in fields such as engineering, medical sciences, management, and humanities. There are a handful of aspirants who clear the exam in the first attempt and secure admission to their desired college, such as IIT. However, their passion doesn’t stop there. And Satvat Jagwani, the IIT-JEE Advanced topper’s success story is a remarkable example.

Satvat Jagwani from Satna secured the All India Rank 1 by scoring an impressive 469 out of 504 marks. Satvat Jagwani, originating from Satna in Madhya Pradesh, attended Nalanda Public Senior Secondary School. Right from childhood, he nurtured a deep fascination for mathematics and physics, consistently performing exceptionally well in both disciplines. In Class 12, he chose physics, chemistry, and mathematics as his core subjects. Beyond his academic pursuits, Satvat had a keen interest in solving Sudoku puzzles, diving into books, and challenging himself with advanced mathematical problems.
“I have been passionate about mathematics since my childhood and I have developed my interest in programming by seeing its application in finding special kinds of numbers like prime numbers, perfect numbers, etc. Apart from math and CS, I am also very interested in the sciences, especially physics. But I have selected my major as Computer Science,” reads his LinkedIn bio.
“In computer science, I am specifically interested in machine learning and software development. For machine learning, I have taken some courses like Data Analysis & Interpretation at IIT Bombay and Introduction to Artificial Intelligence at MIT. For software development, I have taken a course, Software Systems Lab, and I therefore have experience of working in teams for weekly assignments,” the statement further reads.
However, Satvat Jagwani, who secured the top rank in the IIT-JEE Advanced exam, surprised many with his unexpected decision to leave IIT Bombay. Well, in 2015, Satvat Jagwani initially took admission at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, where he completed 145 out of 268 credits toward a BTech in Computer Science and Engineering by 2017.
But destiny had some other plans. After two years, Satvat decided to leave IIT Bombay. Jagwani took admission in Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2017.
In 2020, he took admission at the Master of Engineering (MEng) program in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT. Jagwani’s decision to leave IIT Bombay was fueled by his aspiration to pursue higher education at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
As per his LinkedIn profile, Jagwani is working as a Software Development Engineer at Cadence Design Systems, where he has been working full-time since November 2021, accumulating over 3 years of experience.
