After 'Chhaava', producer Dinesh Vijan promises another huge Vicky Kaushal epic in 'Mahavatar'

Considering the level of impact Maddock Films has created at the box office with their last few films, any new title coming out of their stable will be looked at with keen interest. Dinesh Vijan, producer and key figure of the banner, was at the WAVES event held in Mumbai where he shared the company's upcoming plans. One is Mahavatar, headlined by Vicky Kaushal, announced last November. Vijan teased it as their biggest project, which will tell the tale of the mythological figure, Parashurama.

Speaking about making widely appealing stories, Vijan said the first priority for filmmakers from a certain region making films is to explore stories from their part of the world. "I think, post-pandemic, we are finally getting our act together. We understand that stories need to be made for the common man. In the last 10 years, we are not aspirational to the West. We want stories about ourselves, and we are the only country with such a rich culture. But we as filmmakers, somewhere, stopped looking. Stree and Chhaava are examples of stories from our culture that are as local as they get — they have exploded."

As for the second thing, Vijan notes the advantage of having capital as a result of the success of films made in the homeland and using it to make big-scale dream projects, adding there is "technology available to make a world-class film," referring to Mahavatar, which will be directed by Amar Kaushik, who delivered successive hits through Stree, Bhediya, and Stree 2. It is slated for release in December 2026.

Meanwhile, Vijan's latest production, Bhool Chuk Maaf, directed by Karan Sharma and starring Rajkummar Rao, Wamiqa Gabbi, Sanjay Mishra, Seema Pahwa, Zakir Hussain, Raghubir Yadav, Ishtiyak Khan and Anubha Fatehpuria, will arrive in theatres on May 9.
