Hazardous industrial activities in Jhajjar residential areas banned

The district administration has imposed a ban on industrial activities, including the burning of plastic and other waste materials, that are being carried out in residential and agricultural areas in the Bahadurgarh region of the district for the next two months.

The orders have been issued by District Magistrate Pradeep Dahiya under Section 163 of the Indian Citizen Safety Code, 2023. The action is part of an ongoing effort to curb environmental damage and mitigate public health risks associated with the illegally operated plastic factories in the district, said an official.

Sources said in a blatant violation of established norms, the burning of plastic and other waste material was being carried out in residential and agricultural areas of Parnala, Bamnoli, Kanonda, Kherpur, Ladrawan, Sidipur, Lowa Kalan, and Lowa Khurd villages, as well as along Nizampur Road in the Bahadurgarh area. Besides, electricity meant for domestic use was reportedly being misused to power these illegal operations, which has been causing serious health hazards and significant inconvenience to the public.

According to the order issued in the public interest, all plastic-related industrial activities being conducted on residential and agricultural land without authorisation are now completely prohibited. Additionally, the burning of plastic waste has been strictly banned. The use of illegal electricity connections to operate these factories has also been declared unlawful.

DM Dahiya emphasised that any individual, institution, or industrial entity found violating these directives would face strict legal action under the relevant provisions of the Indian Citizen Safety Code. The order has been enforced with immediate effect and will remain in force until June 29.

To ensure effective implementation and enforcement of the ban, the administration has also issued instructions to the DCP (Headquarters), Bahadurgarh DCP, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Superintending Engineer of UHBVNL (power utility), District Town Planner and the Executive Officer of the Municipal Council, Bahadurgarh. These officials have been tasked with maintaining continuous surveillance, ensuring compliance, and taking prompt action in case of any violations.

The administration has also appealed to the public to report any such illegal units operating in their vicinity to help enforce the ban effectively.
