Drug-free Punjab: Man Melas to be held in govt schools
The district administration has begun a campaign in collaboration with Initiative of Change, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) from Ludhiana, to make children aware of the ill-effects of drugs in government schools.
Addressing the inaugural campaign, the Deputy Commissioner said the war against drugs launched by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was taking another step towards a drug-free future by organising Man Melas in government schools.
A seminar was organised at Government High School, Gate Hakima, where the DC appealed to the children to stay away from drugs as these were a challenge for society. She inspired the students to focus on studies and sports. Addressing the teachers, the DC said the awareness drive should start from schools and appealed to teachers and parents to keep a close eye on the students and guide them in the right direction.
Man Melas have been organised as part of the war on drugs at Government Senior Secondary School in Maqboolpura, Damganj, Ghanupur, Khasa, Verka and the Government Senior Secondary School at Karampura. In these schools, experts will make children aware of the diseases caused by drugs and encourage them to seek help from psychologists. The students pledged for a drug-free society and raised the slogan of “Say no to drugs”.
