In the Kashmir division, exam centres were established in Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam, Kupwara, and Pulwama, in addition to Srinagar. In the Jammu division, centres were set up in the districts of Jammu, Samba, Udhampur and Kathua.
The examination began at 2 p.m. and continued until 5 p.m. During this time, parents and guardians accompanying the students were seen waiting anxiously outside the exam centres in Srinagar.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, visited several centres to take a firsthand appraisal of the facilities made available for the smooth conduct of the examination.
He inspected multiple centres including Amar Singh College, SP College, SP Higher Secondary School and the College of Education, where he reviewed arrangements and interacted with officials.
During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made by the concerned authorities.
To ensure security and transparency, CCTV surveillance systems were installed at all examination centres.
Officials noted that logistics and monitoring infrastructure were also in place.
“We have made the best possible arrangements as per NTA guidelines, including CCTV surveillance, student capacity management, jammers and magisterial oversight. Every measure was taken to facilitate the students. We’ve been preparing for this exam for a long time,” Dr. Bilal said.
Notably, the General Administration Department (GAD) had, in February, constituted committees to ensure the smooth, secure, and transparent conduct of NTA examinations.
J&K has over 1,300 MBBS seats across 12 medical colleges in various districts.
One of the aspirants, Irtiza, expressed satisfaction with the arrangements, saying she had done her best and was hopeful of a good outcome.
“The paper was good, and I did my best in accordance with my preparation. The rest, I leave to the Almighty. I’m hoping for the best,” she said.
Nationwide, 2.27 million candidates were expected to appear for the examination at 5,453 centres and in 13 international cities.
Mock drills were conducted a day before to ensure full preparedness.
Pertinent to mention, NEET is the largest medical entrance exam in India for undergraduate courses such as MBBS, BDS, and related programmes, and is widely regarded as a key step for aspiring medical students across the country.
