BJP’s incompetence reason for water crisis in Haryana: Deepender

Congress MP Deepender Hooda today criticised the BJP and said the incompetence of the BJP government was responsible for the water crisis in Haryana.

Addressing a gathering as part of party’s Samvidhan Bachao Abhiyan in Ambala City, he raised the issues of unemployment, drugs, law and order, inflation, illegal immigration and water crisis. He said: “In the all-party meeting on the issue of water sharing, the Congress extended its full support to the Haryana Government. Whatever steps the BJP government takes to protect the water interests of Haryana, we are with them, but its incompetence is responsible for the water crisis looming over the state. For the past many years, there is no officer from Haryana in BBMB. Then who will protect the interests of the state? We demand that a special session of the Assembly be held over this issue.”

He said “The BJP government is not able to protect the interests of Haryana. The Supreme Court has already given its decision in the SYL case, but the double engine government could not implement it. The Chief Minister is requested not to take the incident of stopping water lightly and immediately meet the Prime Minister.”

Deepender said today the Constitution was in danger and its spirit was being tampered with. The BJP government at the Center was misusing constitutional institutions to suppress the voice of the Opposition.

“The institutions that were created to protect the Constitution are being weakened. The existence of our constitutional institutions is under threat. We will play the role of a strong opposition and protect the Constitution and will not let the rights given by it weaken," he said.

He further said: “The BJP government was not formed on Jan Bhavna, but through a management system. The long-pending issues continue to stand even after months of forming the new government. People of Haryana wanted a change, but the BJP managed to manipulate and form the government. We will continue to perform the duties of the Opposition in the state strongly.”

On the occasion, State Congress president Udai Bhan said today a wall of hatred was being built so that the attention of public could be diverted from the main issues. “The credibility of constitutional institutions has been questioned. An atmosphere of undeclared emergency has been created in the country. If the country has to be kept strong, the constitution will also have to be kept strong," he said.

Ambala MP Varun Chaudhry, Ambala City MLA Nirmal Singh, Mullana MLA Pooja Chaudhry, and several other Congress leaders were present during the event.

Later in the evening, Congress leaders addressed a Samvidhan Bachao Abhiyan programme, organised by Thanesar MLA Ashok Arora, in Kurukshetra and called upon the party workers to go door to door to strengthen the party and raise public issues strongly.
