Litton Das appointed Bangladesh T20I captain till 2026 T20 World Cup
Bangladesh Cricket has appointed Litton Das as the new T20I captain for the upcoming series against the UAE and Pakistan. He succeeds Najmul Hossain Shanto, who resigned from the position earlier this year. Mahedi Hasan will serve as the vice-captain.
Bangladesh has recalled Towhid Hridoy, Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, and Shoriful Islam to its 16-member squad for the upcoming series against the UAE and Pakistan. These players replace Afif Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Ripon Mondol, and Taskin Ahmed in the team. Shanto is also included in the squad.
Shakib Al Hasan’s absence allowed Liton Das to lead Bangladesh to a 3-0 series victory over the West Indies. Das’s leadership experience encompasses various formats, including one Test, seven ODIs, and four T20Is.
Thirty-year-old Das, sidelined from the Karachi Kings PSL 2025 team due to a finger injury incurred during training, has reportedly recovered and is now fit to captain a sixteen-member Bangladesh squad.
Bangladesh’s upcoming cricket schedule includes two T20 Internationals against the UAE in Sharjah on May 17th and 19th, followed by a five-match T20I series against Pakistan from May 25th to June 3rd.
The first two matches of the series will be played at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad, followed by three matches at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. These games will serve as preparation for Bangladesh’s participation in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
