BBMB row LIVE: Special Punjab session starts to discuss release of extra water to Haryana

The Punjab Vidhan Sabha’s special session commenced with Obituary References. The House paid tributes to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack that took place on April 22. The session concluded within seven minutes, after all MLAs observed a two-minute silence for the departed souls. The discussion over release of extra water to Haryana would begin at 12 pm.

This one-day special session has been convened to discuss the order issued by the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) on April 30, asking Punjab to give a total of 8,500 cusecs of additional water to Haryana. While Punjab had been giving an additional 4,000 cusecs of water to the neighboring state from the Bhakra dam, the state has refused to accede to Haryana’s demand for giving another 4,500 cusecs. All opposition political parties in the state have already thrown their weight behind the ruling party, Aam Aadmi Party, on this issue.
