When it comes to celebrity homes, its all about being luxe, lavish and grand. Some have grand chandeliers, some have vacation like swimming pools, diamond studded name plates etc. The home of this actor, was rather, considered unlucky. It was labelled ‘cursed’ and some even called it “bhoot bungla” (haunted house. This is Rajesh Khanna’s home ‘Aashirwad’.
Superstitions, personal beliefs are subjective. With years, certain associations are made with things. Sometimes an actor is termed lucky when a pair gets back-to-back hit films. Actors have a history of changing spelling of their names etc to bring a change about in their luck. Similarly, this grand bungalow in Mumbai was unfortunate and considered cursed for everyone who lived there. Reportedly, three actors lived here and after moving into the home, their fate changed for the worse.
Legacy of Rajesh Khanna’s Home
Rajesh Khanna breathed his last in this huge bungalow. For him, his story of love, break up, success and failure was written here. This home carried a sentimental value to it. Despite the sea-facing views, spacious rooms and lavish lifestyle, this bungalow was the place when two other actors saw their downfall. If lores are to be believed, late veteran star Bharat Bhushan was the owner of the plush palace like place. Reportedly, he bought the house around 1950s however had to sell it after enduring heavy loses.
Next, this place caught the eye of another famous actor, Rajendra Kumar. According to Financial Express report, he then purchased it at a rate of Rs 60,000 approximately at that time. Some reports suggest that it was on the behest of another peer and a friend that Kumar purchased the home. He was sked to not pay heed to the baseless rumours of he home being haunted and perform a a puja before entering the house. Kumar l=names this place after his daughter ‘Dimple’. For a while, Kumar rode the hires of success but in late 1960s, his films incurred loss and failure. Hence, he had no choice to sell this bungalow. Tis further cemented another layer of why it was the ‘cursed’ place.
Word has it that Rajesh Khanna bought it for Rs 3 lakhs ad a half in the 70s. Then, he renamed it to ‘Aashirwad’. Meteoric rise, family time, and fall from grace, the house was witness ti everything. Just like any other home.
Reportedly, a year after his passing, the bungalow was renamed as “Vardaan Aashirwad,” allegedly fulfilling the late actor’s last wishes and a vastu requirement.
The home was originally valued at around Rs 225 crore but with all the legends, legacy and controversy, it was sold for about Rs 90 crore in 2014.
News
