Security forces discover 18 AK-47 rifles in E. Afghanistan

KABUL, May 5: The Afghan police have discovered 18 stocks of Kalashnikovs from illegal armed individuals in eastern Afghanistan’s Paktia province, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said in a statement on Monday.
The armaments have been seized during discovery operations launched by police on the outskirts of Samkani district of the province, the statement said.
Without giving details on whether anyone was arrested on the charge of the case, the statement added that the police will not allow anyone to keep or carry arms illegally.
Earlier, police discovered and confiscated a huge quantity of arms and ammunition, including 90 pieces of pistols, during a series of operations in southern Helmand province last week.
The Afghan interim government, since assuming power in August 2021, has rounded up thousands of arms and a huge quantity of ammunition as part of efforts to stabilize the security situation across the war-ravaged country. (UNI)
