New Delhi: The Russian Government will honor legendary leader and freedom fighter Biju Patnaik for his extraordinary courage and bravery during the Great Patriotic War.

A special reception marking the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War is scheduled to be held on May 9 at the Russian Embassy in New Delhi.

The Russian Embassy has extended an invitation to BJD President and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Odisha Assembly Naveen Patnaik, son of Biju Patnaik, to attend the ceremony.

In a letter to Naveen Patnaik, the Embassy lauded Biju Patnaik’s heroic contributions as a pilot with Indian National Airways, particularly his role in the Stalingrad Operation, where he risked his life to deliver critical weapon supplies to the besieged Red Army.

“Among the heroes we pay tribute to is your late father, Honorable Shri Biju Patnaik ji, a towering personality and valiant pilot who participated in the Stalingrad Operation. In 1995, Russia decorated Shri Biju Patnaik with the jubilee medal “50th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945” for his feat of bravery and courage, the letter stated.
