One dead, 2 injured as truck rams into car

One person was killed and two others were injured when an army truck rammed into an Alto car which was coming uphill on the Parwanoo-Dharampur highway and further into another car near Chakki Maur this evening.

Since two lanes were closed for traffic owing to repair of the hilly slope near Chakki Maur, the uphill and downhill traffic was diverted through the remaining two lanes.

The army truck (14D 194129 E), coming from Dharampur side, suddenly caught speed and hit an Alto car (HP 64B5684) going uphill. The car was smashed into smithereens, injuring its occupants. The truck did not stop there and further rammed into another car bearing a Punjab registration number coming behind the Alto, according to a complaint registered with the police.

The driver of the army truck has been identified as 32-year old Naik Gitesh Kumar, a Bihar resident, who has been arrested.

Vinod Kumar (29), a Mandi resident, the driver of the car, was killed in the incident while Balbir Singh, a resident of Jammu and Kashmir, and Rajiv Kumar, a resident of Mamlig, were injured.

Taxi driver Sahzad, a Chandigarh resident, in his complaint to the police, stated that the mishap occurred due to rash and negligent driving by the driver of the army truck. His car was also damaged in the accident.

SP Solan Gaurav Singh informed that a case under section 281, 125(a) and 106 of the IPC has been registered for rash driving, endangering life and causing death by negligence. Further probe was underway.
