GMDA holds mock drills at underpasses to check flood preparedness in Gurugram
As part of flood preparedness initiatives being undertaken ahead of the upcoming monsoon season, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) successfully conducted mock drills today at the underpasses near Ambience Mall and Shankar Chowk. These exercises tested the pumping machinery, DG sets and the effectiveness of the drainage network to prevent waterlogging during the monsoon. Officials from GMDA and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) were present.
Recycled water from a fire tender was released into the underground sumps in the underpasses. Once the sumps were filled, the pumps were activated to assess their capacity to drain the water. All pumping machinery and DG sets installed at the underpasses were found to be functioning at full capacity.
GMDA has planned mock drills at all underpasses across the city. These exercises are intended to assess the on-ground situation and evaluate the functioning of the dewatering systems to curb potential waterlogging during heavy rainfall.
The mock drills are being jointly conducted by GMDA along with officials from NHAI, PWD and DLF, depending on jurisdiction. The upcoming schedule includes: Iffco Chowk Metro Station to MG Road and Dhanwapur Underpass on May 6, Vatika Chowk and Signature Tower on May 7, Rajiv Chowk and Medanta Road on May 8, Hero Honda Chowk on May 9, Sector 110/113 and Sector 109/110 Underpasses on May 12, Sector 102/104 Underpass on May 13 and Sector 84/36B Underpass on May 14
Additionally, both U-turn underpasses in DLF Cyber City will be tested on May 6, Sikanderpur Underpass on May 7, DLF Phase-I Underpass on May 8 and Genpact Underpass on May 9.
GMDA will also conduct drills with PWD officials at Atul Kataria Chowk on May 10 and Mahavir Chowk on May 11. The mock drill at the HUDA City Centre underpass is scheduled for May 8.
Traffic will continue to operate normally during the mock drills, with all lanes remaining open to commuters.
