Drug peddler’s illegal house on MC land demolished
As part of the ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’ campaign to make the state drug free by taking stringent action against peddlers and demolishing their illegal properties, the Ludhiana Police, along with a team of municipal corporation, demolished the house of drug trafficker Lakhan in Hari Krishna Colony, Transport Nagar, on Monday.
This house was illegally constructed on land belonging to the MC and the drive was carried out under the supervision of Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma.
On the occasion, Assistant Town Planner, zone-B, Kuljit Singh Mangat and Inspector Harminder Singh Makkar from the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation stated that the land in question fell under the Transport Nagar Development Scheme. This area was designated for vehicle parking under the scheme. The drug trafficker Lakhan had illegally occupied it and constructed a house, which was demolished today with the assistance of Ludhiana Police.
The Police Commissioner stated that the state government had adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drugs and strict action was being taken against drug traffickers. He mentioned that Lakhan had five cases registered against him under the IPC and NDPS Act. He has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and is currently in jail.
Issuing a stern warning to drug peddlers, Sharma urged them to abandon their drug trade or similar action would be taken against them. He emphasised that the ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’ campaign would continue relentlessly and drug traffickers involved in the drug trade would not be spared. He asserted that there was no place for drug traffickers in Punjab.
Present on the occasion were Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation) Harpal Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Mandeep Singh and Assistant Commissioner of Police Jasbinder Singh among others.
