American Traveller Hospitalised After ‘Grossest’ 15-Hour Indian Train Journey
Nick Maddock, an American traveller and content creator, had a hospital visit during his India trip after he encountered a severe respiratory infection following a long train journey. In one of his posts, Nick mentioned that this infection was a result of a 15-hour-long train journey, and according to him, it was one of the most unhygienic and "Grossest" experiences in the last 6 years since he started travelling. He vowed he is never going to do it again.
He posted the video with a text on it which says, “Take the Indian sleeper train; it'll be an experience." In the caption, he explained what happened after he boarded a train from Varanasi to New Jalpaiguri in a third AC coach.
In the caption, Nick wrote, "Listen, I love India. It has warm and generous people, endless scenic landscapes, and a rich and sacred history, I can acknowledge that while simultaneously saying that my 15-hour train (in 3rd-class AC) from Varanasi to New Jalpaiguri was one of the grossest things I've seen in my 6 years of travelling. No higher class was available. It doesn't have to be like that."
According to the post, 3 days ago Nick Maddock was in Bhutan and was diagnosed there with this respiratory infection and is taking treatment. “Three days later in Bhutan I was diagnosed with a severe respiratory infection. I’m doing better now but it’ll be a slow road to full recovery,” he added in the post.
Before this post, he shared another video in which he added a picture of himself with an oxygen mask and a clip of his train journey, which shows dirty toilets, unhygienic wash basins, and open ducts. In the caption, he wrote, “Take the 15 hour Indian train, they said. It’ll be fun, they said.”
The on-screen text read, "He doesn't know it yet, but 72 hours from now he'll be in the hospital with a severe respiratory infection." According to his profile, he has travelled to 120 countries in the last 8 years, and in the comment section, he mentioned that the train journey was recommended by two people.
One of the users commented on the reel and said, “Want fame? Defame India when you visit!” to which Nick replied, “Is it too much to ask to clean up the piles of s**t off your train floors?”
To one of the other comments, he replied, “yea in my many years of posting I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much hatred and vitriol as I have for calling out a bathroom with literal s##t on the floor and vomit caked in the sink. It's actually surprising because people in India were so kind and warm and welcoming. I'll try not to let the keyboard warriors change my good perspective,” he added.
