Met Gala 2025: Isha Ambani's Anamika Khanna Couture Took 20,000 Hours To Embroider; Styles With Maharaja Of Nawanagar's Diamond Necklace
When it comes to the Met Gala, Isha Ambani is no stranger to making headlines and this year, she returned to fashion’s most-watched carpet with a look that blended timeless Indian artistry with contemporary elegance. A seasoned Met Gala attendee, Isha turned heads at the 2025 edition by flawlessly interpreting this year’s theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.
This year, the business heiress and fashion icon chose ace Indian designer Anamika Khanna to bring her vision to life. A breathtaking ensemble that took an astounding 20,000 hours of embroidery work. The couture look featured a regal ivory-hued floor-length overcoat with an expansive train, draped over a sculpted corset bustier and black tailored trousers. The overcoat shimmered with exquisite hand embroidery in tones of gold, ruby red, and emerald green, motifs inspired by royal heirlooms.
The bustier was no less detailed, showcasing pearl-studded cutwork with structured trousers that added a sleek contrast to the fluidity of her cape, creating a striking East-meets-West silhouette.
In her interview with Vogue India, Anamika Khanna shared the thoughtful inspiration behind the look: “We used a little bit of semi-precious stones, some traditional pearl work, and drew inspiration from Black dandy style—the small elements they incorporated, the reasons behind their choices.”
While her couture caught attention for its detail, it was Isha’s jewellery that truly stole the show. Around her neck sat a statement-making diamond and pearl necklace, originally owned by the Maharaja of Nawanagar, Raja Ranjitsinhji Vibhaji Jadeja. The necklace holds deep historical relevance, not only as an Indian royal piece but also as the famed design revied by Cartier and also featured in the film Ocean’s 8.
She finished off her glam with her signature makeup and subtle nude lipstick, while her hair styled in a sleek ponytail with hair ornaments.
