Late last night, Pakistani forces once again broke the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC), opening fire without provocation in several areas of Jammu and Kashmir. This marks the 12th night in a row that such incidents have occurred, heightening tensions between the two nations in the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. For now, the gunfire exchange is confined to five of the seven districts along the J&K border. In response to the growing threat, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has instructed all Indian states to carry out mock drills on May 7. These exercises aim to prepare citizens for potential hostile situations. Additionally, the MHA is rolling out several civil defence initiatives, such as activating air raid sirens, training civilians and students in safety procedures, enforcing blackout measures, and camouflaging key infrastructure.

At the international level, the United Nations Security Council convened a closed-door session to discuss the worsening situation between India and Pakistan. Although no formal statement was released, diplomats exiting the meeting emphasized the need for calm and the importance of resolving the issue through peaceful dialogue.
