Pune Viral: PMPML Bus Driver Caught Driving While On Phone, Netizens Slam ‘Typical Punekar’ Behaviour

While it is common to see bikers flout traffic rules in Pune, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) bus drivers are not far behind. From jumping signals to driving recklessly, these drivers also endanger the lives of commuters every day.

In one such incident, a PMPML driver was caught driving while on the phone. A Reddit user shared the picture, which drew outrage on social media, with many slamming it as "typical Punekar" behaviour.

"Oh, this is so dangerously common here. I've been in such cabs where one scrolled reels all the way. One scrolled Facebook and then switched to Instagram Reels and then put on a movie. One just kept watching YouTube Shorts," a user commented.

"There's a new low of stupidity seen nowadays in Pune. Cab drivers, auto drivers are watching reels on phones while at stoplights or even in slow-moving traffic. This country continues to amaze me in going backwards! Save your life and be extremely cautious with kids on roads while walking or crossing," another user shared.

A third user stated that in Bengaluru, drivers are instructed to either deposit their phones in lockers at their respective depots or switch them off before getting behind the wheel. "Conductor roles may have some flexibility regarding phone usage, possibly to facilitate communication in emergencies, but they are still not permitted to use phones while on the bus," he added.
