'Squid Game' season 3 trailer released; final season to premiere on June 27

The trailer for the final season of the record-breaking Netflix Korean series, Squid Game, has dropped. Season 3 tells the story of Gi-hun, aka Player 456, after the cliffhanger at the end of season 2. Gi-hun failed in his rebellion against the game's creators, leading to the death of his friend Jung-bae and his capture.

The trailer shows the masked guards bringing in a coffin with a ribbon tied to it. Inside, we see the body of Gi-hun, who turns out to be alive. The next scene shows a gumball machine with red and blue balls inside. Each player gets a ball, and then they are seemingly divided into two groups.

The trailer ends with a twist, with the cry of a newborn baby.

As per Netflix, returning faces from the last season include the Front Man, detective Hwang Jun-ho, and players Myung-gi (Player 333), Geum-ja (Player 149), Jun-hee (Player 222), Min-su (Player 125), Dae-ho (Player 388), Hyun-ju (Player 120), Yong-sik (Player 007), Nam-gyu (Player 124), and the pink guard No-eul.

Written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, with Lee Jung-jae, Wi Ha-joon, and Lee Byung-hun in the lead, the show was a breakthrough for many actors, including Wi Ha-joon (Jun-ho), Anupam Tripathi (Ali), Jung Ho-yeon (Sae-byeok), Kim Joo-ryoung (Mi-nyeo), and Heo Sung-tae (Deok-su).

The first season of Squid Game, which told the story of a divorced father entering a deadly competition to win a large cash prize, became a global hit, sparking trends like the ‘Red Light, Green Light’ game and Dalgona candy. One of the most-watched series of all time, the top show in 94 countries upon release, the first Korean drama to win an Emmy, and also the first to win a Golden Globe, Squid Game's accomplishments and records can only pile up as the final season hits Netflix.
