'Situation Serious, But...': Here's What Ajay Bisaria Said On India-Pakistan Tensions

Ajay Bisaria, Former Indian High Commissioner, on Tuesday spoke on the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack.

Speaking during the ABP Network's India At 2047 Summit on the ongoing Indo-Pak situation, Bisaria said the situation is serious, however, adding that this has not happened for the first time.

"The situation is serious, but it is not happening for the first time. If you see, in this century, that India has witnessed so many terror attacks. There was the Parliament attack in 2001, Mumbai Terror attack in 2008, in Pathankot in 2015 and Uri in 2016 and in Pulwama in 2019," Ajay Bisaria said, adding that this is not new for India.

He, however, added that India's response to these terror attacks has been different every time.

"We gave a tough response to India in 2016 and 2019. We called this response kinectic action and the army responded. It was a sort of deterrence setup so that such attacks don't happen in the future," Bisaria said.

Bisaria said that the government should repeat the deterrence following the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which led to the deaths of 26 people on April 22.

"This time, India has already taking several actions from now. India has taken a huge step by putting the Indus Water Treaty in abeyance after 65 years... This is a strong deterrence measure," Bisaria said, adding that there is a necessity of a strong kinetic action.

The former diplomat said that India's response to the recent attack will be taken at an appropriate time.

"There might be a kinectic action and some action. But this action will be done when we decide. It is not necessary that it would be done tomorrow, or in a week or in a month," he added.

Lt. Gen. Devendra Pratap Pandey, who was also a panelist during the session, said that terrorism is Pakistan's state policy and that Islamabad fights proxy war with India because it would be defeated in case of full-fledged war with New Delhi.

"Pakistan fights proxy war because it knows that if there is a war with India, then it would be badly defeated...Terrorism is their state policy and they work based on that," Pandey said.
