Mumbai Metro's Record: Over ₹51K Tickets Booked Via WhatsApp In Single Day, Highest Among All Metros, Says MMRDA

Mumbai: Maha Mumbai Metro has created a new national record with the highest single-day WhatsApp ticketing usage among all metro networks in India. On a remarkable day, 51,991 tickets were booked via WhatsApp a milestone that marks a digital transformation in urban commuting.

Launched on October 11, 2024, the WhatsApp ticketing service has rapidly gained popularity among metro passengers. Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Commissioner Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has taken big step in making metro travel smart, sustainable, and user-friendly.

An X post shared by MMRDA highlighted impressive data on ticket bookings via WhatsApp, stating: “Maha Mumbai Metro sets a new record! WhatsApp app ticketing now sees the highest usage among all metro systems in the country.” The post also credited the achievement to the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, noting how Maha Mumbai Metro, a subsidiary of MMRDA, is actively transforming urban transportation.

On the record-breaking day, WhatsApp tickets made up about 19 per cent of the total passenger count, showing how quickly commuters are embracing digital convenience.

This innovative move is not only about ease of travel it's also about making a positive impact on the environment. Digital ticketing now accounts for 65 per cent of daily ticket usage, significantly reducing paper ticket usage, which has dropped from 65 per cent to 35 per cent.

MMRDA officials highlight that this is part of a larger effort to modernise and digitise public transport in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The WhatsApp ticketing system is powered by user feedback, real-time support, and a simple user interface, making it accessible to all age groups.

As MMRDA continues to drive this green and tech-friendly vision forward, Mumbai is setting an example for cities across India. "Mumbai in minutes, metro travel on your fingers!" it’s fast becoming a reality for thousands of daily passengers.
