Co-worker held for Pinjore labourer’s murder
The police have arrested the prime accused in the murder of Sunil Kumar, a labourer who was residing in a rented accommodation in Khokhra village, Pinjore.
According to the deceased’s wife, Nanni Devi, originally from Sambhal district in Uttar Pradesh, she had been living with her family in the rented accommodation for the last one month. Her husband, Sunil Kumar, was working as a labourer at a plot near the Baddi Truck Union under a contractor named Ajay Mistri.
On the morning of May 3, Sunil left for work but did not return home that evening. Concerned, his wife asked her brother-in-law, Nanne Singh, to call Sunil. The call was answered briefly with a single “hello” before being disconnected. After that, the phone remained switched off.
The following morning, Sunil’s wife, along with her son and brother-in-law, visited the site near the truck union. There, a driver named Happy informed them that Sunil had left work around 6.30 pm the previous evening with a co-worker, identified as Nandu. Later that day, Sunil’s son-in-law showed them a video showing a dead body. Based on the clothing and facial features, Nanni Devi identified the body as that of her husband.
The body was kept in the mortuary of Civil Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula, where formal identification was confirmed. Suspecting foul play, Nanni Devi accused Nandu of being involved, as he was last seen with Sunil.
Acting swiftly, the police arrested the accused, Nandu, son of Reet Singh, a native of Bareilly and currently residing in Pritam Colony, Madawala. During the arrest, police recovered the victim’s mobile phone, blood-stained trousers, and the knife allegedly used in the murder.
Sub-Inspector Pradeep Kumar, in-charge of the Madawala police outpost, who is leading the investigation, revealed that Nandu had been living separately from his wife and was frequently mocked by Sunil over the issue. On the day of the incident, both men had consumed alcohol. Nandu stabbed Sunil to death in a fit of rage.
The accused has been booked under Section 25(1)(b) of the Arms Act and Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He was produced before the court and has since been sent to Ambala Central Jail.
