Rohtak MC serves notices on 150 property tax defaulters
In a bid to strengthen property tax collection, the Rohtak Municipal Corporation has issued notices to 150 property owners for failing to pay their outstanding dues in stipulated time. The defaulters have been given two-week time to clear their payments, after which the civic body plans to launch a special drive to seal such properties for non-payment.
According to information, notices have been served on owners of various types of properties, including commercial, residential, commercial-cum-residential, industrial, and institutional properties situated within the municipal limits.
“The pending tax amounts vary significantly, ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 6 lakh for residential properties, Rs 68,451 to Rs 6.16 lakh for commercial properties, Rs 73,000 to Rs 12.23 lakh for commercial-cum-residential properties, Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh for industrial units, and Rs 7.2 lakh to Rs 35 lakh for institutional properties,” said a municipal official.
He added that several property owners had not paid their dues for the past few years, despite receiving repeated notices.
Meanwhile, Municipal Commissioner Dharmendra Singh emphasized that continuous efforts were being made to improve property tax recovery. He reiterated that sealing actions would commence once the notice period ended.
The Commissioner also instructed officials to expedite the process of self-certification of properties and accelerate the issuance of property certificates for properties located in the ‘abadi deh’ and lal dora areas. Additionally, he stressed the need to raise awareness among property occupants regarding the documents required to complete these procedures.
Besides it, Singh has also issued clear instructions to coaching institutes or tuition centres located in the municipal limit to operate strictly in accordance with the policy approved by the directorate.
“Any coaching institute or tuition centre operating without an approved building plan, occupation certificate, Fire NOC and without proper parking facilities as per building norms, will not be allowed to function within the municipal limits,” said the Commissioner.
He also directed all such institutions to immediately submit their relevant documents to the corporation office so that an official report could be prepared and forwarded to the department concerned.
Notably, the municipal authorities had earlier issued notices to the operators of 93 coaching institutes and tuition centres for personal hearings and had asked the owners to submit the required documents to ensure compliance with legal and safety standards.
