Street vendors to be shifted soon to vending zones in Y’nagar, Jagadhri

Street vendors standing on the roadsides in the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri will be shifted soon to the vending zones built by the Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ).

The MCYJ has started the process of shifting the vendors by allotting them booths in vending zones situated in Ganesh Market (near Sector 17, Jagadhri), Prakash Chowk, Jagadhri and near Jabbiwala Gurudwara in Model Town, Yamunanagar.

Now, the MCYJ has started preparations to shift them at their allotted booths. Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha said they had issued instructions to the street vendors to shift to the vending zone themselves.

“If the street vendors do not shift to the vending zone themselves, then the MCYJ will shift them,” said Sinha.

According to information, a large number of vendors set up their stalls everyday on various roads and public places, including Prakash Chowk, Bus stand, Old Railway Road, Civil Line, Main Bazaar, Kheda Bazaar, Buria Chowk, Model Town, Workshop Road, Santpura Road, Ambala Road and Court Road causing traffic jams daily.

“The street vendors displayed their wares on various roads and markets of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri and sold vegetables, fruits, fast food and other items. This led to traffic jams on the roads. Therefore, the MCYJ has developed vending zones at several places in the twin cities to shift them,” said Sinha.

He said 196 booths were ready for the street vendors in the vending zone located in Ganesh Market, 44 booths at Prakash Chowk and 96 booths were ready for them in the vending zone situated close to Jabbiwala Gurdwara.

“Parking, water, light, toilets and other arrangements have been made in all three vending zones. Sheds have been made above the booths to protect them from rain and sun. The street vendors will be able to sell their goods by standing under the sheds,” said Sinha.

He said there was a provision of taps at the vending site for drinking water and dustbins for throwing garbage in the vending zone.

“There have been arrangements of toilets also. Apart from this, parking is also available. Street vendors who have street vending certificates and licences made by the MCYJ under the Pradhan Mantri Svanidhi Yojana, were allotted booths as per the rules of the vending zone. Now the process of shifting them is being implemented,” said Sinha.
