MP CM Mohan Yadav Orders Expansion of ‘Sakhi-Niwas’ Hostels to Boost Women’s Welfare & Skill Development

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav has directed that hostel facilities be made available in all cities of the state for the convenience of working women.

He was addressing a review meeting of the 46th Board of Directors of Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation at Mantralaya on Wednesday.

He said that the 'Sakhi-Nivas' facilities, operated under Mission Shakti by the Women and Child Development Department, should be expanded to industrial areas where a large number of women employees are working.

Activities related to employment-oriented training and skill enhancement for girls and women should be conducted in coordination with relevant departments.

Yadav further emphasised onto ensuring the health, physical development, and proper nutrition of women and children. He said the Women and Child Development, Health, and AYUSH departments must prepare and implement a comprehensive action plan.

He also stressed that coordination should be ensured with urban bodies and Panchayati Raj institutions for the availability and maintenance of Anganwadi buildings.

Yadav issued these directives during a review meeting of the Women and Child Development Department held at the Mantralaya on Wednesday. A short film was presented on the 'Moti Aai' campaign, which was launched for a malnutrition-free Jhabua, and the innovation was praised as exemplary.

The review meeting was attended by the Women and Child Development Minister, Sushri Nirmala Bhuria, Chief Secretary Shri Anurag Jain, Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Rajesh Rajora, Principal Secretary of the department Smt. Rashmi Arun Shami, Commissioner Women and Child Development Smt.Sufia Farooqi Bali and other concerned officials.

The Chief Minister also instructed that a detailed action plan be submitted within a month to improve the system of providing supplementary nutrition at Anganwadis. He directed that chickpeas and other protein-rich food items be mandatorily provided to ensure protein intake. Milk should also be supplied to children at Anganwadis through dairy federations. Pregnant and lactating women must be provided with a complete, nutritious diet.

He also called for involving social institutions, industrial units, and resources available in temples to improve Anganwadi services. He added that arrangements should be developed to accommodate and care for pregnant women from remote villages and other areas who need to reach hospitals before their expected delivery date to ensure safe childbirth. He further directed that a timeline be set to ensure that all Anganwadis across the districts operate from government buildings.

For this, buildings available under the School Education, Panchayat and Rural Development, Urban Development, and Tribal Affairs departments should be utilised.

It was informed at the meeting that under Mission Shakti, assistance was provided to 31,726 women in 2024–25 through 57 One Stop Centres operating in the state for women affected by violence. The Women’s Helpline -181 also assisted 82,552 women this year. Under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, ₹1,878 crore was paid to 58.7 lakh beneficiaries as partial compensation for wage loss to pregnant women.

Under the 'Sashakt Vahini' innovation, 11,321 young women received training, and 156 were selected for various government departments.

The meeting also included reviews of Mission Vatsalya, the Supplementary Nutrition Programme, upgrading of capable Anganwadi centres, the “Nutrition as well as Education” initiative, the Ladli Laxmi Yojana, and the Ladli Behna Yojana.
