MC Commissioner pulls up construction firm
Karnal Municipal Corporation Commissioner Vaishali Sharma has warned the construction agency to complete the work of commercial space by October-end, otherwise a penalty will be imposed.
“Recently, I visited the commercial space site and reviewed the work. I observed the slow pace of work and very few labourers was pressed into service, due to which the agency has been directed to complete it before the deadline, otherwise a penalty will be imposed,” said Vaishali Sharma.
The Commissioner said the construction agency had been instructed to work at full capacity to ensure uninterrupted progress. She directed that quality standards should not be compromised at any stage. The MC engineers have been directed to conduct regular site inspections, collect construction material samples for testing and ensure third-party inspections for transparency and quality assurance.
As per the sources associated with the project, the estimated cost of the project is Rs 27.95 crore. So far, nearly 45 per cent of the work has been completed. The project began with extensive site excavation for a double-basement structure, followed by the laying of plain cement concrete (PCC) and basement rafting.
As per the project, the building will have parking space for vehicles, shopping area, restaurants, food court, and a gaming zone for entertainment. Once completed, it will provide facilities such as parking, restaurants, a food court and a gaming zone, enhancing the city’s aesthetics while offering direct benefits to the residents.
The Commissioner said once completed, the project will ease traffic congestion in the city and the Novelty Road area by providing a designated parking space. The shopkeepers will have a safe and convenient place to park their vehicles.
An official claimed that the construction agency would also manage operations and maintenance for five years. The project is being executed under the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) model.
