Syria’s al-Sharaa marks 1st Europe trip with Paris visit

Syria’s interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa arrived in Paris on Wednesday for talks with President Emmanuel Macron. It’s his first trip to Europe since taking office in January.

It also comes amid renewed sectarian bloodshed in Syria, where al-Sharaa took power after his Islamist group, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, led an offensive that toppled former President Bashar Assad in December.

Al-Sharaa is scheduled to discuss post-war reconstruction and economic cooperation, mainly in aviation and electricity, as well as ongoing Israeli airstrikes and Syria’s relations with Lebanon, Syria’s state news agency reported.
