MS Dhoni First Player To Achieve Unique 'Century' In IPL

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) edged past Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) with a thrilling 2-wicket win in their latest IPL clash on Wednesday (May 8).

While the win doesn't impact CSK's playoff hopes - already dashed earlier - the match will be remembered for a special milestone achieved by their legendary captain, MS Dhoni.

Dhoni's special IPL 'century'

MS Dhoni became the first player in IPL history to remain not out in 100 innings. In the match against KKR, Dhoni remained unbeaten on 17 off 18 balls, adding yet another record to his name.

He has now played 241 IPL innings, staying not out 100 times - a feat no other player has accomplished. CSK all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja ranks second with 80 not-out innings.

CSK hurts KKR's playoffs hopes

Batting first, KKR posted 179/6 in 20 overs. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane top-scored with 48 runs, while Andre Russell (38) and Manish Pandey (36) provided solid support. For CSK, spinner Noor Ahmad delivered a match-winning spell, taking 4 wickets and earning the Player of the Match award.

In response, CSK chased down the target in 19.4 overs. Dewald Brevis played a key role with a blistering 52, including 4 fours and 4 sixes. Shivam Dube also chipped in with a valuable 45, helping CSK cross the finish line in a tense run chase.

Kolkata Knight Riders hopes of defending their IPL title took a major hit after a close defeat to Chennai. With the loss, KKR are now virtually out of playoff contention. While they are still mathematically alive, the path ahead is extremely narrow.

KKR have just two league matches left - against SunRisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. They must win both to finish with 15 points. But even if they do, qualification will depend on a series of unlikely results in other matches. In short, KKR now need nothing short of a miracle to make it to the playoffs.
