Indian Army soldier martyred as Pakistan resorts to cross-border shelling to hide Operation Sindoor humiliation

An Indian Army soldier posted in Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir was killed in the intense, unprovoked cross-border firing of Pakistan in targeting areas across the Line of Control, for the second day in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor. Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar hails from Haryana, and his mortal remains will be laid to rest in his native village on Thursday.

Army officials said Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked small arms and artillery guns firing on Thursday in four areas across the Line of Control. Pakistan has been resorting to unprovoked firing across the LoC in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and after India announced a series of diplomatic measures against the neighbouring country.

"During the night of May 7-8, Pakistan Army posts resorted to unprovoked fire using small arms and artillery guns across the LoC in areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri and Akhnoor areas in J&K. Indian Army responded proportionately," an Army official said. Most of the civilians were moved to safer areas after Pakistan resorted to shelling in the aftermath of 'Operation Sindoor'.

Pakistan's intense firing and shelling targeting border villages comes a day after India launched 'Operation Sindoor' to avenge the killings of 26 persons in the Pahalgam terror attack. India launched precision strikes targeting terror infrastructure at nine locations in the neighbouring country during the early hours of Wednesday.

The Indian Army paid tributes to Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar, who was killed in the cross-border firing on Wednesday. "#GOC and all ranks of #WhiteKnightCorps salute the supreme sacrifice of L/Nk Dinesh Kumar of 5 Fd Regt, who laid down his life on 07 May 25 during Pakistan Army shelling. We also stand in solidarity with all victims of the targeted attacks on innocent civilians in #Poonch Sector," White Knight Corps tweeted.

The 32-year-old soldier hails from Palwal district in Haryana, and he joined the force in 2014. Kumar's father, Daya Ram Sharma, said, "We were informed that Dinesh, along with four other soldiers, was patrolling along the Line of Control (LOC) and died in the mortar shelling. The entire nation is proud of him, and his sacrifice will be remembered. He was a brave soldier,” Hindustan Times reported. Two of Kumar's siblings are also serving in the Army.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini condoled his death and tweeted that every citizen of the country is proud of Kumar's martyrdom.
