Man Attacks Woman With Acid In Kerala, Later Dies By Suicide

A 44-year-old woman sustained grievous acid burns after being attacked by a man who had reportedly been stalking her in Kamballur, located in the Kasaragod district of Kerala. The woman identified as Sindu Mol suffered severe injuries to her face, one eye, neck, and thighs. According to officials, Sindu is currently receiving treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital in Pariyaram.

The accused, 34-year-old Ratheesh, was later discovered dead, having taken his own life by hanging from a tree not far from the scene of the attack, reported Times of India. The incident took place around 2 PM on Wednesday, inside her fancy goods store.

Preliminary investigations suggest the attack was premeditated.

Prior Complaint Was Lodged

Inspector Ranjith Raveendran, Station House Officer of the Chittarikkal police station, stated that the victim and the accused were formerly close but had parted ways, as per a report on Manorama. Since then, Ratheesh had reportedly been harassing Sindu with local residents confirming that he had made public threats. A prior complaint had been lodged against him several months ago, though there had been no recent follow-up.

This is the second such violent incident targeting a woman in the district within a month. On April 8, a 30-year-old grocery shop owner named C Ramitha was assaulted by her neighbour in Mannadukkam, Bedadka panchayat.

The man, 56-year-old Ramamrutham, threw thinner on her after she lodged a complaint about his harassment. Despite a police warning, he had been released without further action.
