FACT CHECK: Did Pakistan attack Amritsar military base? | Operation Sindoor

Ever since the Pahalgam terror attack, Pakistan's propaganda machinery is at work 24x7 to spread misinformation through local media and social networking sites. This has increased exponentially following the success of Operation Sindoor to mask Pakistan military's failure.

The latest such propaganda is circulation of old videos falsely alleging airstrikes on a military base in Amritsar. However, the PIB Fact Check team has clarified that the video is from a wildfire in 2024.

PIB has warned citizens against sharing unverified information on social media and rely only on official sources from the Indian government for accurate information.

In a post shared by a Pakistani social media handle, it was claimed that Pakistan struck the military base in Amritsar. It even went on to allege that numerous casualties were reported with many suffering severe injuries.

This comes a day after pro-Pakistani social media handles even went on claimed that the Pakistan Air Force struck the Srinagar airbase and the Indian Brigade Headquarters in Jammu and Kashmir. However, PIB's Fact Check team clarified that it was part of Islamabad's misinformation campaign.

On Wednesday, a fake letter allegedly written by a non-existent DRDO scientist claiemd that Brahmos missile components have suffered failure. PIB Fact Check clarified that DRDO has not sent any such letter nor does a scientist named AS Kumar is working at DRDO's Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE).

Another misinformation campaign saw circulation of images that allegedly showed debris of India's Rafale fighter jets. These were later revealed to be the images from a previous accident involving a MiG-21 fighter jet of the Indian Air Force.

Another post showed image of an IAF twin engine fighter aircraft MiG-29 that was allegedly downed by Paksitan. However PIB Fact Check team pointed out that the images was from a 2024 crash.

Reports of senior Indian officers were sacked, exiled or dismissed over operational failures have also been debunked. India clarified that those officers were actually retired honorably or promoted.
