Operation Sindoor LIVE: All-party meet begins; Doval briefs PM Modi

The government is briefing an all-party meeting on Thursday on the success of “Operation Sindoor" and its aftermath, as top government functionaries and opposition leaders met for a second time in a fortnight amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.

Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, S Jaishankar, J P Nadda and Nirmala Sitharaman represented the government, while Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge from the Congress, Sandip Bandyopadhyay of the Trinamool Congress and DMK’s T R Baalu were among the leading opposition figures in the meeting.

Singh is chairing the meeting.

Other opposition leaders included Ram Gopal Yadav of the Samajwadi Party, Sanjay Singh of the AAP, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Sanjay Raut, NCP (SP)’s Supriya Sule, BJD’s Sasmit Patra and CPI(M)’s John Brittas.

JD(U) leader Sanjay Jha, Union minister and LJP (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan and AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi were also part of the meeting.

Ahead of the meeting, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval  met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and briefed him on the developments regarding India-Pakistan tensions.

After India hit nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan resorted to heavy shelling, killing 15 persons and leaving over 50 others injured in J&K’s Poonch district on Wednesday.

Saudi junior foreign minister in Delhi on unannounced visit

Saudi Arabia's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Aljubeir is in India on an unannounced visit and held talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday with a focus on de-escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. Aljubeir's visit to New Delhi comes as the already frosty ties between India and Pakistan plummet further following the Indian military's targeted strikes on nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. "A good meeting with @AdelAljubeir, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia this morning," Jaishankar said in a social media post. "Shared India's perspectives on firmly countering terrorism," he said.

Blast heard in Lahore

A blast was heard in Pakistan's Lahore city on Thursday, broadcaster Geo TV and a Reuters witness said, a day after Indian strikes on multiple targets in the country and fears of a larger military conflict between the nuclear-armed neighbours. There was no immediate word on the reason for the blast.

Airlines re-route, cancel flights

Airlines, including United Airlines and Korean Air re-routed or cancelled flights and about a dozen Indian airports were shut on Wednesday after India struck nine sites in Pakistan, raising fears of an escalation. Images from flight tracking websites showed a long line of airlines passing over Oman, UAE and Kuwait after the attack, raising the possibility of airspace congestion. Authorities in Pakistan said 57 international flights were in the country's airspace when India struck. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's office said India's action "caused grave danger to commercial airlines" belonging to Gulf countries and "endangered lives".

Leaves cancelled, schools shut as Punjab, Rajasthan

With India carrying out precise missile strikes at nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack, Punjab and Rajasthan, which share borders with the neighbouring country, have gone into full alert mode. While Punjab shares a 532-km border with Pakistan, in Rajasthan, the border stretches about 1,070 km. Punjab Police have cancelled leaves of all its personnel while the state government has shut schools in six border districts, officials said on Thursday. The Rajasthan government too has cancelled leaves of all administrative officials and police personnel deployed in the border areas, sources said.
