Iyo Sky: The Genius of The Sky Keeps On Getting It Done

The genius of the WWE is its ability to find charismatic and athletic performers who connect with its audience. Vince McMahon realized early that fans considered their favorite performers akin to superheroes and constantly found ways to make his performers stand out. Iyo Sky slots well into this tradition and, in her relatively short wrestling career, is plowing a legendary reputation.

A Career Constantly Moving Up

When Iyo Sky jumped into the NXT in 2018, she was basically what you’d call an “Instant Sensation” by every possible metric! This eye-catching Asian beauty brought fashion best described as “eccentric but gorgeous” to the ring and the kind of in-ring combat style that fans of Rey Mysterio will recognize: fast, furious, technical, and impossible to ignore in its acrobatics.

Clearly, the WWE knew what they had in this obvious budding superstar: in that year alone, she won the NXT Women’s Championship, NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship, and the Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Personal accolades didn’t stop coming, either, as she walked away with a slew of big awards from that startling debut year:

That last win is no laughing matter: it means she was better than everybody else, including NXT’s best and brightest male wrestlers. Obviously, Sky wasn’t going to stay in the NXT for long, and she made the jump to the WWE soon thereafter. Throughout her early days, she continued to be the kind of eye-popping wrestler you couldn’t take your eyes off for a moment.

Successes Keep Coming

Sky’s breakout moment came in SummerSlam 2022, an already legendary event packed with tons of amazing storylines and fantastic bouts. After all, SummerSlam 2022 featured Roman Reigns’ unreal victory over Brock Lesnar in a Last Man Standing Match that we’re going to talk about for the rest of our lives as wrestling fans. All eyes, though, were on the female wrestlers.

It was during this event that Bianca Belair got her revenge against her much-hated opponent, Becky Lynch. The previous year, Lynch defeated Belair and honestly looked poised to do it again. The faster and more lithe Lynch kept out of Belair’s way and avoided her raw power for much of the match, but Bianca would not be denied the W in this amazing revenge match.

In fact, let’s hold these two in mind for a moment longer because they play into Sky’s story this day! During an event, Sky came out alongside other competitors as part of Damage CTRL and stood right in the face of these two obvious powerhouses. The sheer chutzpah of this “young punk” put her on the enemy list for Lynch and Belair but made her an overnight name.

Finally Becoming a Superstar

At the WWE Money in the Bank 2023 event, Sky showed the world her stuff again, winning this always-competitive event to gain a contract to wrestle against Bianca Belair. Later, at SummerSlam 2023, she shocked the world by beating Belair to earn the WWE Women’s Championship in a Triple Threat Match for the ages. But hold on, my friends, that’s not all!

Sky then gained the Women’s Triple Crown (a very rare thing indeed!) and beat Rhea Ripley in a stunning March 3, 2025 Raw episode to take the Women’s World Title.

Like a whirling service, Iyo Sky has descended on the WWE world, and nothing will ever be the same again. Honestly, it’s hard to imagine the wrestler who could take her out: what kind of next-level talent do you think the WWE is going to pull out of its back pocket next?
