FACT CHECK: Truth behind Pakistan's claims of IAF aircraft crash, drone interception

There seems to be no end to the propaganda and misinformation campaign emanating from Pakistan in the wake of Operation Sindoor, the precision strikes on terror camps located in the neighbouring nation.

India has been going into overdrive, debunking the many false narratives and claims from Pakistan peddled through many social media handles, aimed at creating panic among the people of India and diminishing the morale of its armed forces.

The latest in this series of misinformation is a video going viral on Pakistani social media accounts, showing an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft crash.

PIB Fact check clarified that the video is from an earlier incident involving a Mi-17 V5 helicopter that crashed near Budgam of Jammu and Kashmir. The helicopter, which was on a routine mission, had crashed near Budgam on February 27, 2019, and six people on board had suffered serious injuries.

Besides, pro-Pakistan social media handles were also claiming that Pakistan intercepted an Indian drone.

Pakistan-based handles have been sharing an old image claiming that the Pakistan Army intercepted a UAV that fell in Gujranwala, Pakistan, PIB Fact Check said, and clarified that the picture being circulated is from the Ukraine-Russia conflict in 2022.

The image being shared was of an Iranian 'Shahed-136' drone, deployed by Russia, and shot down mid-range anti-air missiles of Ukraine.

Earlier in the day, India debunked a claim by Pakistani social media handles that there was an attack on a military base in Amritsar.

The Indian government has been appealing to people not to share unverified information or images and to trust only official government sources for information.
