Mumbai: Man Posing As Google Employee Dupes Woman Of ₹27.4 Lakh On Matrimonial Site; Booked For Cheating

Mumbai: A man who posed as a high-earning Google employee on a matrimonial website was booked by Parksite Police in Mumbai for allegedly cheating multiple women under the guise of marriage. The accused, identified as Nikhil Deepak Dalvi, is accused of defrauding a 28-year-old woman of Rs 27.4 lakh after luring her with false promises of marriage.

The complainant, originally from Pune and currently residing in Vikhroli, met Dalvi two years ago on a private matrimonial platform. He introduced himself as a Google employee based in Ghatkopar with an annual salary of Rs 1 crore. Their relationship developed through frequent chats and calls, eventually leading to a romantic bond.

Dalvi Asked For Financial Help From Victim

Dalvi began asking the woman for financial assistance under various pretexts. He initially claimed his bank account was frozen due to an online fraud and sought help for urgent expenses related to a road widening project near his village. To gain her trust, he shared a screenshot of a bank account showing Rs 78 lakh and even a forged Google employee ID, as reported by Lokmat Times.

The woman was convinced and then transferred Rs 70,000 with the expectation of repayment within 14 days. However, Dalvi continued to make repeated requests for money, citing reasons such as travel to Germany, customs clearance issues involving iPhones at Mumbai airport, and home construction in his village. On one occasion, he asked for Rs 21 lakh for interior work, leading the woman to take a bank loan after he assured her he would pay the EMIs.

₹27 Lakh Transferred In 21 Transactions

Between September and December 2024, the woman made 21 online transfers totalling Rs 27.4 lakh. To further gain her trust, Dalvi visited her parents in Pune in October 2024 to formally discuss marriage.

The truth began to unravel in January 2025 when another woman from Kamothe in Navi Mumbai, contacted the complainant with a similar story of being duped by Dalvi. When confronted, Dalvi admitted to borrowing money but denied making marriage promises, claiming he intended to marry only her.

FIR Registered Against Accused

Realising the extent of the fraud, the woman approached Parksite Police. Following preliminary verification, an FIR was registered under charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust. Dalvi is already in judicial custody after being arrested in a similar case by the Navi Mumbai Police. Mumbai Police are now seeking his custody to further investigate his alleged pattern of deception across multiple victims.
