After 'Drive-Away Dolls', Margaret Qualley reunites with director Ethan Coen in ‘Honey Don’t’

Margaret Qualley reunites with filmmakers Ethan Coen and Tricia Cooke for her next, Honey Don’t, alongside Aubrey Plaza and Chris Evans. The upcoming detective comedy is written by Ethan Coen and Tricia Cooke. Qualley and Coen last worked together on the critically acclaimed Drive-Away Dolls. The trailer gives us a glimpse of what’s in store, and we expect mystery and violence with a touch of wit from the film.

The film stars Margaret Qualley as Honey O’Donahue, a small-town private investigator entwined in a series of deaths tied to a mysterious church. Her character faces off against a charming cult leader Priest Drew, played by Chris Evans. Aubrey Plaza also makes an appearance, as a mystery woman; however, the trailer suggests that she is a police officer.

The trailer opens with Priest Drew giving a sermon in the church; the scene shifts to Honey walking into Bakersfield Police Station, where she meets MJ, played by Plaza. The plot kicks into high gear when Priest Drew’s devout facade is revealed to conceal a sinful soul with a hint of danger. As Honey digs deeper into the deaths, the truth begins to unravel and, throughout the journey, she can only trust herself and her instincts.

The cast includes Kristen Connolly, Lena Hall, Charlie Day, Billy Eichner, Lera Abova and Christian Antidormi. Produced by Ethan Coen, Tricia Cooke, Robert Graf, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, the film will premiere at the Midnight Screenings section of the Cannes Film Festival 2025 and will get a U.S. release on August 22, 2025.

Ethan Coen, the maestro behind films like Fargo and No Country for Old Men, has seemingly woven an intricate tale that piques our curiosity. After Drive-Away Dolls, we'll hopefully witness strong performances again in Honey Don’t.
