Liam Payne’s €24.3 million estate to be managed by ex-partner Cheryl Tweedy

Over six months after the death of Liam Payne, the court has appointed his former partner, Cheryl Tweedy, as the administrator of his multi-million dollar estate. Though the couple called it quits in 2018, they share a son, Bear, born in 2017, who is the legal heir to Payne’s estate worth €24.3 million (Rs 233.8 crore).

The question as to who will manage Payne’s assets arose as the former One Direction star passed away last year without writing a will. As per UK laws, if someone dies without making a will, the rules state that their children will inherit their estate if they do not have a living husband, wife or a civil partner.

According to multiple reports, court documents also state that music industry lawyer Richard Mark Bray, who works for the entertainment law firm Bray & Krais, has also been given administrative duties. While both Tweedy and Bray oversee the management of Payne’s estate, they have limited authority to distribute it.

Payne died after falling from the balcony of the Casa Sur Hotel on October 17, 2024, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The post-mortem report showed that the 31-year-old died of multiple traumas, internal and external haemorrhage. The toxicology report from an autopsy revealed that Payne had alcohol, cocaine and a prescription antidepressant in his system, which may have contributed to his fall. Five people—Liam’s close associate and hotel staff—were charged with negligent homicide; however, a court in Argentina dropped their charges in February.

His death came as a shock to the music and entertainment industry as he rose to fame as one of the five members of the sensational boy band 'One Direction' alongside Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan. The group reunited for Payne’s funeral for the first time since they disbanded in 2016.
