Jaisalmer under attack: Pakistan launches drone attack in the city

On the night of May 7–8, 2025, tensions between India and Pakistan escalated following India’s Operation Sindoor. In retaliation, Pakistan launched a series of drone and missile attacks targeting various locations in India, including the border city of Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. Explosions were heard in the area, and flashes could be seen in the sky.

According to reports, Pakistani drones attempted to breach Indian airspace near Jaisalmer. The Indian Air Force’s air defence systems promptly detected and intercepted these drones, successfully neutralizing the threat. Debris from the downed drones was recovered in the vicinity.

In response to the heightened threat, security measures in Jaisalmer and surrounding areas were intensified. The Border Security Force (BSF) and local law enforcement agencies were placed on high alert, with surveillance and patrols increased along the border regions. Additionally, civil defence protocols were activated to ensure the safety of residents in the area.

Meanwhile, the iconic Jaisalmer Fort in Rajasthan was plunged into darkness during a mock drill ordered by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Authorities have instructed all border districts including Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Jodhpur, and Ganganagar  to observe a full blackout from midnight until 4 a.m. Residents with inverters have been specifically advised to switch off all lights to ensure complete darkness, as part of precautionary civil defence measures.

Meanwhile, the health infrastructure is being reinforced. Hospitals, along with Public Health Centres (PHCs) and Community Health Centres (CHCs), have been directed to stock up on essential medicines and medical supplies to prepare for any emergency situations.
