Face of Op Sindoor briefing, Col Sofiya once inspired Sirsa students

Colonel Sofiya Qureshi of the Indian Army, who recently appeared in a press briefing to explain India’s air strike on Pakistan called ‘Operation Sindoor’, had once delivered a motivational lecture at Government National College in Sirsa. During the briefing on Wednesday, she was joined by Air Force Wing Commander Vyomika Singh. As she addressed the media about the military operation, her earlier visit to Sirsa came back into focus for many who had heard her speak six years ago.

Back in 2019, Colonel Qureshi was invited by the college’s placement cell to motivate students about joining the armed forces. In her 20-minute talk, she urged students to rise above personal and social boundaries to serve the nation. She emphasised that every family should prepare at least one member for the military, describing national service as a responsibility above all.

She also spoke about the values of equality and unity within the Army. She explained that the Army offered an environment free of discrimination, where everyone was treated equally and lived together as a team. According to her, the armed forces are like a family where every individual is respected and supported.

Colonel Qureshi further highlighted that life in the Army was not just about discipline and duty, but also about growth and balance. She said soldiers were given every facility needed to pursue their hobbies and personal interests alongside their professional duties.

Dr Ravindra Puri, in-charge of the college’s placement cell, recalled inviting Colonel Qureshi to encourage students to consider a military career. He remembered her as someone with a strong yet approachable personality, always smiling and radiating motivation. She spent almost two hours on the campus, talking to students and especially inspiring young women.
