Migration from border villages continues for 2nd day, people take shelter in designated refugee camps

Over 60 percent people adjoining IB desert houses

JAMMU, May 8: The migration from border villages in three districts of Jammu region continued for second consecutive day today to the specially designated refugee camps in safer areas.
Over 60 percent people from border villages in districts of Jammu, and Samba have migrated to safer areas during last two days and taken refuge in specially designated camps in Government schools and community halls where administration has made all arrangements of food , bedding, water, electricity including free transportation so that these migrants are not put to hardships.
The migration continued today from border belt of Chhamb and Parghwal areas also. However one or two male persons from every family have volunteered to put up in their respective villages to look after their live stock. But they too were advised by administration to take precautionary measures and remain confined to the bunkers only especially during night hours.
Over 300 people from Pargwal border belt have taken refuge in Radha Swami Satsangh Ashram, Kangrail in Mishriwala. They included men, women and children.
About 400 people from various border villages of Pargwal are taking refuge in Government College Barwal Brahmana.
Over 250 people from border belt of Khour tehsil including Garkhal area have been housed in Baba Achaldev Ashram Swankahawada in the same tehsil while 500 people from Dori Degate in Chhamb constituency are taking refuge in Khour tehsil of Jammu district.
The displaced people from these border areas said that they have been advised by the administration as well as Army to shift to safer areas for some days in view of prevailing tension on borders and firing by Pakistani Army in Rajouri and Poonch sectors yesterday targeting civilian areas.
They said “Though administration has provided us buses, shelter and food etc but leaving our homes is a tragedy for us,. East or West home is the best” said Neelam Devi of Pargwal putting up in Radha Swami Satsangh Ghar Kangrail. She said “There can’t be any comfort outside the home. But we have to leave our houses in compulsion,” she added.
Same were views of Soni another refugee from Pargwal in the camp. She said “We have left our cattle behind and came to refugee camps for our safety and security.
She said “Every time we had to face this problem during border skirmishes,. The Government should allot land to us for construction of houses in safer areas”. However justifying the Modi Government’s action of attacking terrorist camps in Pakistan and PoK she said that India has avenged the killing of 26 tourists in Pahalgam by Pakistani terrorists last month.
“The people are fully with Government action and we want that Pakistan be taught a lesson once for all,” she said, adding “How long nation can afford the killing of its citizens by Pakistani terrorists”.
The migration has also taken place from border villages in Bishnah tehsil including Arnia, Trerva , Chandi, Khatarand Pindi. Over 300 people have taken refuge in Bishnah Higher Secondary School among them while hundreds of people have been sheltered in Piyoli, Rehal High Schools and Boys High School Bishnah.
In Samba tehsil migration has taken place from border villages of Bainglad, Sucheetgarh, Kulian, Sadoh, Regal, Chachwal, Chillyari, Chechwal, Mangu Chak, Khora and they are putting up in Cheechi Mata, Community Hall, HSS Rajpora, Bus Stand Samba and other safer places in Samba district.
In Ramgarh Sector of Samba district the migration has taken place from border villages of Nanga, Kamor, , Kamor Camp, Kesso, Barota and Barota camp who have also been shifted to safer places like Government schools and community halls.
However in Kathua district the people from border villages had not migrated in large numbers yet while some families had shifted the women folk, children and old aged persons from villages of Chadwa, Pansar, Babiya to safer places or residences of their relatives . The Government has also designated the camps in Government schools and community halls in Hira Nagar, Chakda Mareen and Kanachak.
