India-Pakistan Tension Live: Omar Abdullah En Route To Jammu To Take Stock Of Situation After Pak Strikes
India Pakistan Tension News Live: Tensions between India and Pakistan surged on Thursday night as Indian armed forces swiftly intercepted a fresh wave of drone and missile attacks aimed at military bases, including those in Jammu and Pathankot. This followed earlier attempts by Pakistan to strike around 15 locations across northern and western India, which were also foiled by the Indian troops.
These renewed assaults, along with heavy shelling by Pakistani forces along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan, came after India on Thursday morning targeted several Pakistani air defence systems, including one in Lahore, as part of its escalating retaliation to the recent Pahalgam terror attack. On Wednesday, the Indian military carried out precise missile attacks on nine terror-related targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under ‘Operation Sindoor’.
The Ministry of Defence reiterated that any strike on Indian military facilities would be met with a “suitable response”. Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri put the ball in Pakistan’s court, saying it’s up to Islamabad to choose whether it wants to step back and de-escalate tensions with New Delhi.
As drone sightings continued along the border, blackouts were imposed in parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan as a precaution. Key military bases in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur came under attempted attack from Pakistani drones and missiles, but India’s air defence systems responded swiftly using kinetic and non-kinetic capabilities, the MoD said. At least eight missiles fired at areas around Jammu, including Jammu Airport in Satwari, Samba, RS Pura, and Arnia, were intercepted.
On Thursday afternoon, the defence ministry stated that armed forces foiled Pakistan's attempts to target military sites in 15 cities in the northern and western parts, targeting Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bathinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai and Bhuj using missiles and drones.
A city-wide blackout and blaring sirens urged residents to take shelter in Jammu after two loud explosions. Similar scenes unfolded in western Rajasthan, where explosions were reported in Jaisalmer and emergency blackouts were enforced in border districts.
On the diplomatic front, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with both External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging restraint and calling on Pakistan to act decisively against terrorism.
President Donald Trump also weighed in, expressing concern over the escalating “tit for tat” exchanges and offering to help mediate if needed. Later, Vice President J.D. Vance clarified that while the US would not get directly involved in what he called a “regional issue,” Washington would continue encouraging both nuclear-armed neighbours to de-escalate tensions, but stressed it was “none of our business”.
