Foreign Players In IPL Seek Early Exit Amid Escalating Ind-Pak Border Tensions: Report

With tensions escalating between India and Pakistan, several foreign players in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 are reportedly considering an early return home. "Reliable IPL sources have revealed that foreign recruits want to head home at the earliest," reported news agency PTI.

This comes shortly after similar concerns emerged from the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where many overseas players expressed their intent to leave due to security fears.

On Wednesday night, the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals IPL 2025 match in Dharamshala was canceled after shelling was reported in several Indian cities. The stadium was blacked out as part of emergency security measures. Spectators were safely evacuated, and players were rushed back to their hotels under heavy security.

Following the incident, the IPL Governing Council and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reportedly held an emergency meeting on Thursday.

Australian cricketers eager to return home

According to The Herald, a number of Australian cricketer - including Test captain Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, and Mitch Marsh - are eager to return to Australia. Veteran coaches like Ricky Ponting and Brad Haddin, currently involved with IPL teams, may also leave.

With the situation on the border deteriorating, a decision on whether the remainder of IPL 2025 will continue is expected soon.

Reviewing the situation, says IPL chairman Dhumal

"We are reviewing the situation right now. It is an evolving situation. We haven't received any directive from the government. Obviously the decision will be taken keeping all the logistics in mind," IPL chairman Arun Dhumal told PTI on Thursday.

IPL 2025 match on Friday (may 9) is scheduled to be played between Bangalore and Lucknow at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Ardonamau, Uttar Pradesh.

Asked about Friday's game in Lucknow, Dhumal told PTI: "Yes it is on as of now but obviously it is an evolving situation and any decision will be taken keeping the best interest of all stakeholders in mind."
