INS Vikrant is India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier commissioned in 2022. With a full-load displacement of around 45,000 tonnes, it can launch MiG-29K fighter jets and advanced helicopters. , it enhances India’s maritime strike capability and operates in the Arabian Seaalong the western coastline and can be rapidly deployed during high-alert operations like Operation Sindoor.
The cost of building INS Vikrant was approximately Rs 20,000 crore and Indian technology and self-reliance played an important role in its construction.
This aircraft carrier can carry fighter aircraft like MiG-29 and helicopters. 30 aircraft can be deployed in it simultaneously. It is 262 metres (860 ft) in length, with a top speed of 28 knots (52 km/h; 32 mph) and endurance of 7,500 nautical miles (13,900 km; 8,600 mi). The ship has 2,300 compartments manned by 1,700 seamen. It has a hospital complex, cabins for female officers, eight kilometres (5.0 mi) of corridors, and eight generators capable of lighting up a city of 2 million people.
It has missiles with long range which can hit targets at long distances. Apart from this, it also has the power to destroy enemy aircraft and ships.
INS Vikrant has a special capability that it can target Pakistan’s sea ports within minutes. It is capable of attacking Pakistan’s bases during any sea war.
