Pune: Kondhwa Police Arrest Muslim Woman For 'Pakistan Zindabad' Post On Instagram

Pune Police have arrested a Muslim woman for allegedly sharing objectionable pro-Pakistan content on social media, officials said on Friday.

Speaking to the media, Rajkumar Shinde, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone-5, Pune City, said, "Kondhwa Police have registered a case against the woman, identified as Khatija Shaikh (19), a resident of Kausarbaug in Kondhwa, for a 'Pakistan Zindabad' post on Instagram."

"She has been booked under sections 152, 196, 197, 299, 352 and 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and has been placed under arrest. Further investigation is underway," he added.

Meanwhile, amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, a high alert has been issued in Pune, with security being heightened at several key places in the city, including Pune Airport, the National Defence Academy (NDA), and Pune Air Force Station, among others. Safety measures have also been taken at places that witness large crowds, such as the Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati temple, Sarasbaug Ganpati temple, and Swargate bus depot.

Speaking to this newspaper, Ankush Chavhan, Public Relations Officer at the Southern Division of the Ministry of Defence in Pune, said, "Pune is on orange alert, which means there is a high probability of a serious security threat or disaster, but it is not yet critical. The measures taken during such an alert include heightened security, advising the public to remain vigilant, and preparing for an emergency response."
