Operations halted at Hisar airport
The airport authorities have suspended the operations at the Hisar Airport till further notice due to security concerns. The passengers who are scheduled to travel from Hisar Airport, including those scheduled to fly to Ayodhya on Friday, were informed via message that their flights had been cancelled.
Official sources said the suspension of flights is a precautionary measure as Hisar Airport has been classified as a sensitive site in view of the prevailing situation. In response to these security concerns, authorities have decided to increase the airport’s security and halt air services till further orders.
The air services at Hisar Airport began on April 14, with the inauguration of flights by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Since then, regular flights have operated twice a week between Delhi, Hisar, and Ayodhya. However, due to the ongoing security issues, passengers were given the option to either reschedule their flights or receive a refund for their tickets, say the officials.
The increased sensitivity of Hisar Airport is attributed to its strategic location near the Hisar cantonment and its importance for both civilian and military purposes. In March, prior to the launch of regular flights, the Indian Air Force had also conducted drills at the airport, with fighter jets participating in exercises for three days. In the event of an emergency, the airport can also be used by the Indian Army, say sources.
