Cinema halls, malls to remain shut across Mohali from 8 pm to 6 am

District Magistrate Komal Mittal has ordered the closure of cinema halls and shopping malls from 8 pm to 6 am daily in the district until further orders.

A ban has also been put in place on the use of fire crackers and long beam laser/DJ lights, especially during evening hours.

In case of a blackout call, the use of inverter, generator and any other power backup used for outdoor lights, bill board, street lights etc., solar lights will also be prohibited until further orders.

Residents urged

to follow protocol

Besides, during the evening hours, residents are requested not to leave their houses expect for urgent matters. If a siren/signal is sounded, the public should immediately follow the instructions issued by the government from time to time.

The residents have also been urged to minimise the illumination in general.

The orders issued under 163 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita shall remain in force with immediate effect from May 9 and violators will be prosecuted.

Grocery shops, filling stations, work overtime

Shops in the region , meanwhile, are witnessing a spurt in sales. Candles and batteries have made it to the fore of the shop counters, with shopkeepers also reporting spike in sale of groceries. They, however, said the customers were being assured of adequate stock to curb panic buying.

The Phase-7 filling station stopped dispensing fuel today evening, citing certain supply issues.

District food supplies controller, meanwhile, said, “The fuel stations have been asked to maintain specified reserves of petrol and diesel.”

“There is no supply shortage, an individual filling station may have its problem. People need to be sensible and buy according to the need only,” the official futher added.

Similarly, gas agencies staff has been working overtime for the past three days as number of bookings and refills have shot up.

To maintain smooth availability of essential goods, the District Magistrate prohibited the stockpiling of essential goods in the district on Thursday evening, adding that no indvidual, trader or entity would be allowed to stockpile essential commodities including but not limited to food grains and goods, fodder, milk and dairy products, petrol and other fuels.
