Adopt natural farming methods: Parliamentarian exhorts growers

Kurukshetra MP Naveen Jindal on Friday called upon farmers to adopt natural farming, stating that the message of natural farming was being given to the whole world by Kurukshetra.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the three-day agri-tech exhibition and start-up conclave, organised at Kurukshetra University.

The MP said, “Through agriculture, farmers can strengthen themselves as well as society and the country, helping the dream of making a skilled, prosperous and new India come true. The Centre and the state government have been making efforts by forming new policies to increase the income of farmers. Governments cannot do all the work, and farmers will also have to come forward. The way of farming will have to be changed.”

“Many people take care of their body and family, and use ‘natural’ products, which are much more expensive than ‘chemical-based’ products. Farmers need to understand the difference between organic and natural farming,” he added.

Jindal said progressive farmers had come up with new technologies during the three-day conclave, and other farmers should get information from them.

Farmers who knew the damage caused by the use of chemicals should not make such mistakes in future, he said.

Similar seminars would be organised for cattle-rearers and youngsters, he added.

Rearers should know about the breeds of cows and buffaloes reared by them, he said, adding that, similarly, it was important for youngsters to know about start-ups and technology. Dr Hariom, a Padma Shri awardee, said the time to adopt natural farming had come.

For this, farmers needed to take training, he added.

Efforts should be made to hand over the land our ancestors had handed over to us to our children in future, he said, adding that this was possible only through natural farming.
