ITBP deployed on Chamba borders

In the wake of heightened tension between India and Pakistan, security measures have been significantly intensified in the border regions of Chamba with the Indo-Tibet Border Police (ITBP) deployed at the security posts along 220-km boundary with Jammu & Kashmir.

ITBP state police battalions, and Special Police Officers (SPOs) are maintaining a tight vigil in the region. Each police station in the border areas has been reinforced with ITBP personnel, who are conducting continuous patrolling and monitoring all kinds of activities. If required, military forces may also be deployed in these sensitive areas.

All vehicles, including interstate buses entering Chamba from other states, are being thoroughly checked before being allowed to proceed. Security agencies are especially alert at key border entry points such as Langera, Khundi Maral and Chuhan Sindhara. The borders along Punjab are also under strict surveillance.

“Security personnel from the police and ITBP are maintaining round-the-clock patrols. Every vehicle entering the district from other states is being thoroughly checked. If needed, further reinforcements will be made,” said Abhishek Yadav, Superintendent of Police, Chamba.

As a precaution, the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has suspended all bus services from Chamba to Pathankot and Amritsar. However, all other inter-district and interstate routes are operational as usual. Buses that earlier passed through Pathankot are now being rerouted via alternate paths.

“HRTC buses plying on the Pathankot and Amritsar routes have been temporarily suspended. All other interstate and inter-district routes are operating as scheduled, though buses that used to go via Pathankot are now being rerouted,” said Shugal Singh, Regional Manager, HRTC Chamba.
